Basquaerie Kennels were instrumental in establishing an organization that could serve the interests of the breed and guide breeders and owners in the issues related to the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. The GPCA is now one of the most powerful bodies promoting the breed in the United States.

Though the first dogs are said to have appeared in the United States in the 19th century, it was no sooner than in 1931 when they started to be selectively bred. Thanks to the owners of Basquaerie Kennels in Massachusetts, there were developed quality bloodlines that gave start to the majority of dog found now in the country.
