Great Pyrenees dogs are large animals with a muscular body build and confident character. This double-coated dog is well suited for countries with cool climate. The long coat protects the Great Pyrenees dog from snow and rain. The Great Pyrenees dog is a good choice for people who cannot stand the sight of a dog lying comfortably on the sofa. Great Pyrenees dogs are far from being coddled. They can spend the year round outside.
These dogs are best with a yard. When living in an apartment, they do need a lot of space to stretch out. Take care to keep away all fragile objects in the apartment to ensure the dog does not break them accidentally. However, keep in mind that the Great Pyrenees is happiest with spacious houses.
Height: Males are usually larger than females. The Great Pyrenees dog stands about 27-32 inches at the shoulder. Females are usually 25-29 inches.
Weight: Great Pyrenees dogs weigh from 85 to 100 pounds.
Coat Color: White, white with tan patches, pale-yellow, and wolf-gray.

The Great Pyrenees dog is very devoted to its owners. The breed has guarding instincts and is often used to guard livestock. Many dogs bark a lot. Their impressive appearance is surely a good arm when dealing with intruders. The Great Pyrenees dog is good with children and non-canine pets. No matter how strange it may seem, cats often accompany Great Pyrenees dogs. They make good companions.
The breed is very independent. It tends to be dominant with inexperienced trainers and owners. Therefore, the breed is not recommended for novices. The owner should be able to show who the boss is. The Great Pyrenees dog is slightly difficult to train. What is an upset to owners are the dog's run-aways. It is wise to exercise Great Pyrenees dogs in a yard and walk them mostly on leash.
